The pilot tip, also called the lead-in section (highlighted in red), is a thread-free area on the connection side of the Powerelement.
Using the conical tip offers technical advantages, especially as an insertion aid for nuts:
Due to the manufacturing process, threaded bolts have a thread run-out, meaning the thread does not extend all the way to the mating surface. As a result, the nut cannot be fully tightened when thin intermediate layers are used (e.g., when fastening cable lugs).
By adding an additional thread undercut (highlighted in red), the nut can be tightened down to the mating surface regardless of the thickness of the intermediate material. This provides the following advantages:
As standard, Powerelements with solid press-fit technology use pins with a 1.6 mm diagonal and a length of 3.5 mm. Depending on the PCB layout, it may make sense to adapt the pins to a 2.2 mm pin diagonal and a 3.0 mm pin length. This can lead to the following advantages:
