The flexible pins of PowerFlex Press-fit Powerelement are press-fitted into an electrically through-plated hole in a PCB. During the press-fit process, a gas-tight connection is created, primarily by deforming the pin is deformed. The contact area is limited to the deformation zone of the pin and may limit the maximum current carrying capacity.
Processing instructions
- Use only appropriate press-fit tools.
- For Powerelements with bolt, the upper punch must be recessed by the dimension of the bolt. Pressure on the bolt must be eliminated.
- For flat surface Powerelements, a simple full-surface top punch will suffice.
Further information
PCBs shall be designed in accordance with the latest edition of IPC A 600. In the case of massive press-fit technology, the PCBs must be designed in accordance with the Würth Elektronik ICS Press-fit Specification. Special attention should be paid to drill diameters and copper thickness.
